Chocolate Labrador Puppies Reserved

We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of 9 working type chocolate labradors birthed by our own Hazel (KC name: Russbaca Chestnut) and sired by the phenomenal Tenor (KC name: OFTW Flashmount Tenor of Tagabea)

Hazel is a working type lab from good working lines, though she’s always preferred sitting at our feet getting a chest rub than splashing around in muddy rivers after game. She’s learnt some basic gundog training, gets on really well with other dogs and is a very chilled out easy going dog. She is very affectionate and loyal to us.

Her health testing is fantastic, Hip score of 10, elbows 0, BVA eye test Unaffected, and Clear of the 7 DNA tests the Kennel Club recommend (prcd-PRA, CNM, EIC, SD2, HNPK, STGD, and MCD)

Tenor is a fantastic working dog, he’s won numerous field trials, has qualified for the International Gundog League Championship (Where only the best of the best compete, only 2 other chocolate labs have ever qualified for this) He’s only one win away from becoming a Field Trial Champion, another massive achievement. This all proves that he’s highly trainable and obedient. He’s also a lovely natured dog, with a nice dark coat and a strong physique.

His health testing is also excellent, Hip score of 6, elbows 0, BVA Eye Test Unaffected, and clear of the same 7 DNA tests as Hazel, meaning none of these puppies can be affected for those diseases.

Not only do Hazel and Tenor both have good hips and elbow scores, but just as importantly there is a lot of good health testing in their pedigrees also.

Hazel and Tenor have had a litter together previously, and we’re thrilled with how they’ve turned out. They’re big strong dogs, energetic and making good family pets. They’ve all got a nice shiny dark chocolate coat.

Pups will be wormed at 3, 5 and 7 weeks, vet checked, microchipped, had their 1st vaccine and of course be Kennel Club registered.

There are still a few pups available, if interested please get in touch.

Updates on their progress shown below.

Week 1

The pups spent the first week of life alternating between sleeping and eating, growing steadily. We have them on vet fleece as it’s hygienic, easy to wash and provides good traction for their paws.

They all fell asleep during their first nail clip!

Week 2

This week proceeded much like last week, the pups have a routine of sleep, toilet, eat, toilet and sleep again. Their nails have been clipped again and just like last time they didn’t put up any fuss at all.

At the end of this week their eyes began to open a bit, and they’re trying to walk about in a wobbly kind of way, as they’ve not got their balance yet. They’ve outgrown their whelping box, so that’s now out and we’ve doubled the amount of space the pups now have access to. 2/3rds of this space is a toilet area. Over the next couple of weeks the pups will hopefully learn to sleep in the bed area and toilet in the toilet area, and by the time they leave here at 8 weeks they should have the basic understanding of the fundamentals of toilet training.

Week 3

This week the pups had their first taste of proper food. We start weaning them on Natures Menu raw puppy food, this always goes down a treat. The pups eagerly devoured it from the very first meal. After a few days we tried them with kibble, soaked in hot water until it became a mush. this also was quickly eaten. They’ve also had their first session of wormer this week and of course had their nails clipped and filed again.

The pups are quite affectionate, seeking out human company where ever possible. They particularly like sleeping with their heads resting on legs, feet or each others backs.

Week 4

Collars on at the end of this week. Red, Light Green, Dark Green, Dark Blue and Light Blue are the males, Orange, Purple, Light pink and Dark pink are the girls.

They’ve enjoyed visits from a small number of trusted family and friends this week. The pups were all confident and had great fun playing with them and each other.

They’ve tried out sardines this week which they all loved, and wet skinners puppy food hand fed this week. Hand feeding soft foods can help to encourage gentleness and reduce snatching.

The photos below were taken at the start of the week, and the head shots above at the end of the week. They’ve grown so much in just 1 week!

Week 5

At exactly 5 weeks old we had them outside as it was such a lovely day. They were fascinated by the sound of birds, planes and farm machinery. Our senior citizen Coco wandered over to say hello so they had a greeting with her through the baby gate.

On the left you can see that their first introduction to the crate went really well

The pups have had a nibble on some yak chews this week, eaten some dried hairy rabbits ears and they’ve eaten some blueberries. They’ve also had their 2nd round of wormer (Panacur) and the weekly nail trim has been done again. They’ve had several new toys (including a large Tigger) and they’ve met our golden oldie, Sienna.

We’ve had most of the puppy viewings this week and so the pups have met people of various ages. They’ve been enthusiastic to greet everyone and have thoroughly enjoyed nibbling everyone, they’ve all been equally confident and relaxed around the children as well as the adults.

The pups have now been Kennel Club registered, we’ve chosen an Olympic theme as the Paris 2024 Olympics have just started.

Gotcha day!

Today is the start of a great adventure with his new family for little Bean. We’ll miss seeing his cheeky face gazing up at us! We’ve dug up some old photos of his parents at his age, he definitely takes after his father.

10 weeks old

This cheeky chappy is now sleeping through the night in his crate without any mess or fuss. He’s mastered sit and the puppy dog eyes!

9 weeks old

Out for a little walk around the local fishing pit – he’s not had his 2nd jab so he can’t touch the floor, but he can still be carried around and take in the sights and smells. He saw many ducks and geese, some with their little offspring waddling along behind them, he saw several people and watched some others play football on the pitch nearby. Lots of noise and shouting from some excited players, none of which phased him.

Nap time now!

9 weeks old today! We’ve nicknamed the male pup Bean while he waits for his forever home.

We’re pleased with his progress over this past week. He’s learning to settle in the crate, and sleeps in there overnight. We nip him out once in the night for a quick wee, and so far he’s been clean in his crate.

8 weeks old

Some photos of the male pup, he’s enjoying the 1-1 time now that his sisters have gone on to their new homes. He’s a happy, confident puppy who LOVES meeting new people and isn’t afraid of anything!

7 weeks old

Time has absolutely flown by! Here they are at 7 weeks old, crashed out after playtime. They’ve had loads of people over to see them (which they’ve enjoyed!), they’ve met some of our older dogs, and they’ve decided that their new favourite toy is the hoover – they love pouncing on it and chasing it around.

They’ve also had their vet check, vaccine and microchip the day before they turned 8 weeks old. All pups passed their health check and they thoroughly enjoyed the attention from the vet.

5 weeks old

Below is the pups at 5 weeks old, enjoying the sunshine! Once they’ve settled down they also had another nail trim.

3 weeks old

Pups are now 3 weeks old! Their eyes have all opened and they’re hearing well. We’ve introduced a toilet area for them and we’re pleased with how often they’re using it.

Weaning has begun with great success. We’ve started them on Natures Menu Puppy (Raw food) and will soon introduce them to kibble.

Barley Puppies 2022 (ALL SOLD)

Barley whelped her final litter on the 21st April 2022, producing 3 beautiful puppies, 2 boys and 1 girl.

The pups are raised in our office, which has a mini kitchen, lounge, tv and is right by the yard, so they frequently hear vehicles arriving and leaving. From an early age puppies become used to the hustle and bustle of daily life on a farm, often hearing tractors, cars, crow scarers, the kettle, the tv and people chatting.

From day 1 we’ve made sure to handle them lots, cuddling them and touching their paws to help them get used to being handled.

The first 2 weeks passed with Barley tending to their every need, feeding, cleaning and caring for them perfectly. Their eyes began to open around 12 days old, as seen in the picture on the left.

Once the pups turned 3 weeks we began weaning them on Natures Menu raw puppy food, which they gobbled up eagerly. We also wormed them this week. They are a good healthy weight, and have been gaining consistently since they were born.

At 4 weeks they began socializing with a few family members and children, the pups were lovely and outgoing. By this point we had also introduced Skinners Puppy kibble into their diet, and they had their first lap of bone broth.

The 4th week is a good time to slowly introduce new things into their lives, so we began playing Classical music, and various other types of music. The TV was on more often, playing numerous shows to help desensitize them to noises like cars, people talking, and many different types of animals.

They are also walking on different surfaces, like blankets, vet fleece, soft beds, newspaper and concrete. It’s important for us to get them used to all of these things so they’re less likely to develop a fear of them in the future.

At 5 weeks old we had some nice weather, so they all went outside for playtime! They loved it, charging around without a care in the world. We were pleased to see how confident they were in a new environment, even with planes flying over head and various loud bangs going off in the distance they weren’t at all nervous.

6 weeks old and the pups have begun to eat their food in different places. They sometimes share a bowl, sometimes eat individually. Every day they’re let out of their pen under supervision to explore the office, and they have great fun pinching shoes and exploring all parts of the room.

They’ve thoroughly enjoyed tucking into some sprats and carrots this week.

Puppy viewings began this week, so we’ve had several new people come and view the pups. The pups engaged wonderfully with them showing no fear or caution, instead they leaped on them joyfully, licking their faces, nibbling their shoes, playing with some balls and each other.

All pups have now moved on to their new homes! It’s always sad seeing them move on, but they’ve all gone on to amazing homes who are thrilled to bits with them, and they’ve all settled in well to their new homes. Barley has enthusiastically greeted retirement with a celebratory swim and a long run with our other dogs.

Here are our girls – all health tested with excellent results and with superb temperaments. Feel free to register an interest in one of their litters, but please be aware that if we feel a different litter would be better suited to you, we will encourage you to reconsider. We like for the new owners to chose their puppy, but each litter is suited for different lifestyles and activities. More info on each dog can be found on their page, accessible via the drop down menu above.
